This is the announcement of the Italo-Hellenic School of Physics
THE PHYSICS OF LHC:
THEORETICAL TOOLS & EXPERIMENTAL CHALLENGES
to be held from May 20-25, 2004 in Martignano (Lecce, Italy).
The aim of the school is to bring together young experimentalists and
theorists and help them learn about the tools for physics at the LHC.
It is addressed to Italian and Greek Ph.D. students or post-docs, in
both experimental and theoretical high-energy physics.
The theory lectures will be aimed mainly towards experimentalists and
the experimental lectures to theorists. A total of approximately 32
hours of lectures will be delivered: 50% Th., 50% Exp.
Topics of the lectures:
- QCD and simulation tools for hadronic collisions
- MonteCarlo tools for the LHC
- Electroweak physics at the LHC
- Higgs physics at the LHC
- Physics beyond the Standard Model at the LHC
- Parton distributions functions for the LHC
- Heavy quarks
- String Phenomenology
- Distributed computing
- Simulation tools
- W and top analyses at CDF
- Machine-experiment interaction
- Triggers at the LHC
- Tracking at the LHC
- Calorimetry at the LHC
- Muon id
- pp accelerator physics

The School fee is 120 euro. This will cover lunches and social events.
A number of Greek participants (around ten) will receive a
studentship (covering the school fee, accommodation and living
expenses) offered by the Unione della Grecža Salentina.
The numbers of students will be limited at around 50.
All participants will be accommodated at the Hotel delle Palme, located
in Lecce, within walking distance of the city center.
The rate for a double room is 40 euros per person per day.
A few single rooms are also available on request.
Transportation from the Hotel to the School site will take place by bus and
